This is a part-time, non-tenure track position for inclusion in the lecturer pool for Spring, Summer, and/or Fall. Assignments will be based on the availability of funds and staffing needs at East Hawaii (Hilo), West Hawaii (Kailua-Kona), and/or North Hawaii (Honokaa) campuses. Candidates must be able to attend meetings and training sessions on short notice and teach courses in person when required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct lectures and, where applicable, laboratory courses under general supervision.
- May include teaching assignments in distance education.
- Maintain a minimum of one office hour per week for each class taught.
- Potential for evening, weekend, and off-campus assignments.
- Evaluate student performance to assess teaching effectiveness.
- Participate in the evaluation of course learning outcomes.
- Adhere to all deadlines, including the timely submission of grades online.
Master’s Degree in Hawaiian Studies
- Master’s Degree in Hawaiian Language with at least 9 credits of advanced or graduate-level coursework focusing on Native Hawaiian topics;
- Bachelor’s Degree in Hawaiian Studies with 3 years of relevant work experience;
(d) Master’s Degree with a minimum of 15 credits in advanced or graduate-level coursework or research focused on Native Hawaiian areas; - Master recognition in a specific Hawaiian knowledge area acknowledged by the Hawaiian Community, along with 10 years of related experience.
Note: If qualified applicants are unavailable, individuals not meeting the minimum qualifications may still be considered.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Willingness to work with Running Start and Early College programs and pass required additional screening as necessary.
- Demonstrated commitment and/or experience in promoting equity and fostering a diverse workforce and academic environment.
- Proven commitment and/or experience in supporting student success.
